Governor's Challange

2007 GOVERNOR’S CHALLENGE ACTIVITIES

What is the 2007 Governor’s Challenge?
The Governor’s Challenge is a call to action for all New Mexicans to recognize that we have a joint responsibility to keep New Mexico Clean and Beautiful.  Griffin & Associates has created a series of educational and fun activities that will brand the program and allow it to be replicated in future campaigns.

The 2007 Governor’s Challenge will run from present day till spring 2008 and will culminate in a gala event to be held in Santa Fe.  The Governor’s Challenge will consist of 3 major statewide events – the School Litter-ary Awards targeted at 8th grade students and younger; the “Talk Trash with the Guv” MySpace and YouTube Competition targeted at young adults between the ages of 15 -26 and the Pickup Olympics targeted at businesses and organizations throughout the state.

All of these competitions will be incentivized with prizes from private sector sponsors.  All participants and winners from each category will be invited to a gala event in Santa Fe at the end of the program, spring 2008.  The KABBI award will be implemented to recognize the KAB Coordinator whose community has the most participation in the program.

Litter-Ary Awards
A poster and entry form will be sent to all elementary and middle schools in the state of New Mexico encouraging each school to participate in a school wide clean-up effort.  Each entrant (can be an individual, class, or entire school) will be asked to write an essay about what they did to clean up New Mexico and submit it.  Schools may plan projects at any time between now and spring 2008.

“Talk Trash with the Guv” MySpace and YouTube Competition
This competition is challenging young adults to think about what they can do to keep New Mexico Clean and Beautiful.  A Talk Trash with the Guv MySpace page has been launched and contains all contest rules and other information, http://www.myspace.com/talktrashwiththegov

The MySpace page is for a group or an individual to create a video, blog, website, song, artwork with an anti-litter message, write some poetry, or share idea that will help keep New Mexico Clean & Beautiful.  They would record their creative pieces through YouTube and upload it as an entry for the contest.  Twelve winners will be selected and may have a chance to either record their songs or shoot their videos at a professional studio or with a professional videographer and have the song and video included in the 2008 Governor’s Challenge campaign.

If you do not have a MySpace account but you are a member of www.facebook.com, a Talk Trash with the Gov Facebook account has also been launched with the same information as the MySpace page.
